I also have the benefit of a world-class mastering engineer doing that. We also have a track that I mixed and referenced an older album t do. I have quite a few mixes here that aren’t necessarily square away but printed pretty hot. We end up putting stuff on the master bus and use it a little bit more aggressively than we would when we are mixing through consoles. I find that almost every mix I’ve done in the box and those that I’ve been sent that were mixed in the box come in pretty darn hot. One of the things that tend to happen now that we are increasingly mixing in the box is we tend to mix at almost mastered levels.
